A Winter Wedding at Butley Priory

Emilie and Charlie had the most romantic wedding at Butley Priory - one of my favourite wedding venues, and one I am proud to be recommended at.
How did you meet?
We first met through a friend back in 2008 while we were both still at school. Fast forward to 2020, and Charlie had planned to propose in Hong Kong—but then Covid happened, postponing both the holiday and the proposal. Once travel opened up again, he surprised me with a trip to Estonia and proposed on a snowy street during Valentine’s weekend. A romantic twist to an unexpected journey!
Choosing the Perfect Venue
We wanted a venue that felt meaningful and personal. Butley Priory, close to Charlie’s parents in Suffolk, held so many fond memories for both of us. It was intimate, unique, and gave us the freedom to create a wedding that truly reflected us—rather than a standard, one-size-fits-all celebration. We explored barn-style venues across Surrey, Norfolk, and Suffolk before falling in love with Butley’s charm.

The Wedding Style & Theme
We envisioned a classic, timeless, and romantic atmosphere—think candlelit elegance with a refined yet warm feel. The colour palette reflected this: dusky pink, emerald green, white, and touches of gold. The black tie dress code added a touch of sophistication, and we infused our love for travel into the menu with Asian-inspired cuisine.

Advice for Future Couples
- Keep an eye on your cash flow—not just your overall budget.
- Do what feels right for you, not what tradition dictates.
- If a wedding tradition doesn’t make sense, don’t feel obligated to follow it!
We wouldn’t change a thing.
It was a beautifully soft and delicate winter palette for Emilie & Charlie’s wedding at the grand hall of Butley Priory. With its elegant architecture, soaring ceilings, and expansive windows, the venue provided the perfect backdrop for their December celebration. Despite the crisp winter weather outside, guests were welcomed into a warm and inviting space, beautifully styled by Synched Events and adorned with the exquisite florals of Floralsistas. To complete the ambiance, the soft, romantic scent of Jo Malone London Peony & Blush Suede candles filled the priory, adding an extra touch of winter magic. ✨
